Land stewardship is one of the tools available to companies to fulfill their nature conservation commitments.

Land stewardship is one of the tools available to companies to fulfil their commitments to nature conservation and to offer investment opportunities. This tool’s versatility allows each company and entity to adapt the agreement and the specific actions to their needs, objectives, and possibilities. This means that the beneficiaries of land stewardship agreements are multiple: the company, the organisation, society, and nature.

La Empresa como aliada en la custodia del territorio is a publication of the Biodiversity Foundation, which shows 14 initiatives that describe experiences, good practices and lessons learned in different alliances between companies and land stewardship entities from all over the country. These projects are a compilation of the great effort made by the business sector and non-profit organisations that mark a clear path of consolidation of this tool for nature conservation in the private sector and are intended to be a source of inspiration for all those organisations that are beginning their approach to land stewardship.

Spanish Business and Biodiversity Initiative (IEEB)

Promoted by the Biodiversity Foundation, it is a public-private collaboration platform that seeks to promote the integration of biodiversity in business management, where land stewardship also fits in, and which offers:

  • A space for dialogue between the public and private sectors.
  • The opportunity to highlight the contribution of Spanish business to biodiversity at the international level.
  • Access to advanced technical and scientific knowledge related to the valuation of natural capital and assessing biodiversity impacts and dependencies.
  • Coordination with strategic partners in business and biodiversity.

One of the IEEB products directly related to land stewardship is the Practical Guide to Ecological Restoration, which also includes examples of initiatives involving partnerships between companies and land stewardship entities.
